The Empanada Shop announced its January 19 grand opening on Instagram.
The shop – located at 251 B Valley Boulevard – is the brainchild of Joni Caldera and Nelson Contreras, an Italian and Dominican couple, who lives in Wood-Ridge and “enjoys cooking empanadas together and sharing them with family & friends,” according to the shop’s website.
“Joni and Nelson are known to bring empanadas to every party they attend. Party hosts often hide the empanadas from their guests to eat for themselves once the party is over,” the site states.
The shop will serve classic beef, chicken and pork empanadas, as well as those with an Italian flair by featuring ingredients such as peppers and onions, tomato, basil, garlic and shrimp. Other options will include empanadas filled with buffalo chicken, spinach and feta, and even chili mac n cheese.
